1995 Roadmaster going Drag Racing!!

So I was all pumped about going to the drag strip on saturday, and giving the car a once over, and collecting my stuff... When I grabed the battery and it flopped all about!! I forgot the tray was totally rusted out. And to make things even worse, I broke the bolt on the tie down side. Oh boy, this sucks!!

A little quick thinking, and some real backyard engineering, and I got it tied down VERY soild. All i used were some parts off an old fog light. Didn't even cut anything!! So I hope it passes tech so I can see what this beast can run. A little background:

1995 Buick Roadmaster Limited. Loaded with tomany options. LT1 350.
117,000 miles, a 162,000 mile 4L60E trans, and a very big rust issue. 2.56 rear, no posi. Stock exhuast with muffler delete, stock air box cut all up with a K$N air filter, going to a PVC intake. New autolite plugs, Throttle Body bypass, air pump disable, Beehive valve springs. FE2 caddy rear springs, with AirLift 1000's (rear) helper bags, with 1 valve per side. Menroe Severe Service shocks, with only a small sway bar up front, 235/70/15 street tires, on aluminum rims. I'm gonna see if I need the 275/50/15 Drag Radials I have. I'll take them and put them on if I have traction issues.

The only weight I have taken out is: Spare tire, trunk carpet, rear seat(Maybe, if I feel like it), and a few brackets I didn't like.

The bad thing is, it has a bad exhuast leak at the 3-bolt flange, and at the air pump check valves. So it bogs down some times(I know Matt... But I have all I need to put on headers, i just wanted to wait). The rear tires are about done for, so I'm just gonna BURN 'em up!

It should be about 50*, and a chance of rain...

Hope it all goes well!!

Re: 1995 Roadmaster going Drag Racing!!

Shouldn't is a key word... EVERYBODY seamed to be sliping some off the line. 45* is just cold. I first made some runs on the 235/70/15 street tires. Left them at 35 PSI, which I now know to be a bit of a mistake. Played with the airlifts PSI's, and got a best outta 4 runs: Which was actually my very first run.

I ended up taking out the back seat, and the passengers seat, along with tires, jack, trunk carpet. but left tools, and the compressor.

Weight was starting at: 4220 and ending at: 4190 lbs with me. without me: 4060lbs.

Run 1(street tires)

Reaction: .7602
60 ft: 2.3078
330 ft: 6.4016
ET@594 FT: 9.1377
1/8 ET: 9.7507
1/8 MPH: 73.41
1000' ET: 12.6295
1000' MPH: 85.27
1/4 ET: 15.0446
1/4 MPH: 93.37

Then I switched over to the drag radial's... 22PSI not enough? Cause they seamed to slip just as much as the street tires... Played with the airlifts PSI, burnouts, launch tehnuique, then later tire PSI, and never got the drivers side tire to do a burnout... so the passengers tire did all the burning out, and sliping at the line. I didn't once see them get out the VHT tractor...

Best on Drag radial's: 4 runs into the tire swap, 22PSI in tires, 5/15 in air lifts(I think). It was a solo run. Lucky me!

Run 8(drag radials)

Reaction: .5871
60 ft: 2.2850
330 ft: 6.3308
ET@594 FT: 9.0330
1/8 ET: 9.6488
1/8 MPH: 73.07
1000' ET: 12.4878
1000' MPH: 86.21
1/4 ET: 14.8800
1/4 MPH: 93.90

Trans shifted great, and exactly the same(since it IS, out of the caddy ) as when I took the caddy there. I think that the only thing the drag radials offered, was that they were 2" shorter. Judgeing by the marks at the starting line, everybody was having wheel hop off the line. But I really donno. It was hard for me to tell if I was slipping, since my runs were either agaist a car on street tires, or a car with no freakin' mufflers

Best 60', and MPH, was run 7

Run 7

Reaction: .6410
60 ft: 2.2748
330 ft: 6.3340
ET@594 FT: 9.0488
1/8 ET: 9.6669
1/8 MPH: 72.08
1000' ET: 12.5121
1000' MPH: 86.18
1/4 ET: 14.9070
1/4 MPH: 94.11

Long post, Whoops!

Re: 1995 Roadmaster going Drag Racing!!

I used a DA calculator , and it said I had a DA of -900. I took #'s from weatherunderground.com . 4 pm, 45*, dew point 22*, IN: 29.90ish...

and judging by my MPH, I don't think that too far off.
