My GS exhaust project

I just ordered the Borla XR-1 sportsman racing muffler #40944.
16" x 4 1/2" x 7 7/8". Oval.

1.)Remove the resonator.
2.)Weld in straight pipe where the resonator was.
3.)Remove the two factory mufflers.
4.)Install the Borla muffler near the axle.
5.)Add Y-pipe.
6.)Weld in straight pipe off the Y-pipe and connect to the exhaust tips.

I will post up video after the install.

Good luck! Please be sure to take a video of the sound before and then after, that way we have a good comparison with the same recording device.

Just ordered the t-304 stainless 3" y-pipe. I look forward to seeing how this setup sounds.

Why not get fittings welded on where the resonator was before? That way, if you get too much drone, you can easily bolt the resonator back on.

I will figure that out when the car is up on the lift for the install.

Waiting on the stainless Y-pipe to arrive so the install can begin.

Exactly like you stated. Not too raspy. I am hoping for louder and throatier if possible. This will be interesting considering I am trying this on a 2.0, 4 cylinder engine. According to USPS tracking, the Y-pipe is currently in FL. So it looks like early to mid next week for the install. I will post pictures and video of the install.

Are you going to install a downpipe at all as well? That should really wake up the turbo.

I think a few people are as well. I really hope it sounds good. The Y-pipe should be here tomorrow and the install is scheduled for Tuesday.

Did some YouTube searching for the Borla XR1, the closest thing I could find to the GS was a Saturn Ion Redline and a Cobalt SS. I hope yours sounds better than theirs!!! Looking forward to seeing the pics, videos, and sounds.

The install is at 8:30am this morning. I decided I am going to leave the resonator in place. Pictures and video after the install.

I think leaving the resonator on is a good decision.
